Your Santa Cruz, Monterey Bay and San Francisco Bay Area Destination for all of your rug care needs. Artisan Fine Rug Care is a family business exclusively dedicated to hand washing and repair of handcrafted and fine area rugs. We take great pride in the individual attention given to each piece by our lead rug technician, Aaron, and the superior results that follow.
Before the formation of Artisan, Aaron received his training and worked for many years for one of the world's preeminent textile conservators. He has cared for rugs from museums, important rug collections, celebrities, world-renowned designers and many prominent rug dealers. Aaron has cleaned thousands of rugs, primarily oriental and other collectible rugs.
Artisan's philosophy is to take no risks with our clients' valued rugs. We do not subject them to harsh methods, heat, nor machines and wringers - all of the work is done by hand. As such, we are able to specialize in antique, silk and other challenging carpets. We also offer professional repair.

Services
1. Extensive, thorough inspection and documentation.
The inspection will reveal whether a rug is machine- or handmade, what its likely country of origin is, and its fiber content.
These factors are important to a determination of the rug's suitability for washing.
Visible pre-existing conditions such as tea-washing, old spotting attempts, tears, sun-fade, residue from past cleanings, unraveling, excessive soiling, stains, and other damage will be noted and discussed with the client prior to cleaning.

It's one of the ironies of owning a fine handmade rug.
It takes an experienced artisan hundreds of hours to create a beautiful hand knotted rug.
Even the casual observer can clearly tell it's a work of art.
Yet the minute you place it on the floor it's destined for a lifetime of wear and tear.
But we don't expect you to stop walking on your rug, after all, that's what they were made for.
However, while enjoying an oriental rug merely requires refined sensibilities, cleaning and maintaining your rug requires the gentle hand of a seasoned expert.
