At Bunyaad, we love to educate about the process of rug production and the artisans who craft our carpets. We are pleased to offer a large selection of hand-knotted, heirloom quality rugs made by fairly paid adults. We have been working with Bunyaad artisans in Pakistan since 1982 and we have a staff dedicated to educating customers about hand-knotted rugs and the fair trade difference-both in quality of life and quality of product.
We believe in preserving the rich cultural heritage of traditional rug-making in all its myriad forms and styles. Based in Lahore, Pakistan, our rug artisan group includes over 850 families from over 100 villages involved in hand-knotted rug production. Part of our mission is to provide vital and fair income to Pakistani rug artisans who otherwise would have very few sustainable outlets for their craft and artistry.
One tradition of rug production is the process of artisans making their own artistic and technical decisions. We believe in the inherent value of art for arts sake.

Services
Our rugs are exquisitely designed and crafted by an artisan group in Pakistan known as Bunyaad (formerly JAKCISS Oriental Rugs).
The name meaning "foundation" in Urdu, Bunyaad works to create strong foundations in the villages of Pakistan by paying a fair wage to its artisan families.
All rugs are made by fairly paid adults.
Centered around Lahore, Pakistan, Bunyaad was started in the late 1960's by a Pakistani Baptist pastor and rug artisan as a way to create and sustain rug knotting jobs in rural villages.

Here are some tips and tricks as you measure your room and think about what size carpet you need.
When you shop for a Bunyaad rug, bring as many representations of your room and decor as you can: swatches of materials & upholstery, paint chips, pillows, etc.
The more items that represent the room where your carpet will go, the easier the choice will be.
Be excessive when planning for your visit.
Since we carry three types of rugs-Persian, Bokhara and Tribal-visit our Types and Designs section to determine which style you are most drawn to.
